Deze brandweerkazerne was een voorbeeld van efficiënt gebruik. De productieve ruimtes en de koer zijn vertrouwde entiteiten die terugkomen in het industrieel en historisch patrimonium van de Kortrijk. Ze vormen de fundamenten voor de nieuwe Deelfabriek en ontmoetingspunt voor de buurt.
Het optimaliseren van het open (fabrieks)plan in de brandweerkazerne, kan met een gericht aantal ingrepen een grote oppervlakte aan bruikbare ruimte realiseren. Eigen aan de fabrieksvloer is de flexibele inrichting van de productielijn. Dit maakt veranderlijke activiteiten op lange termijn en de vrije invulling door de werkploegen op de korte termijn mogelijk. De transformatie van de brandweerkazerne naar analogie van een fabriek creëert een flexibel, betaalbaar en deelbaar project, bruikbaar door diverse actoren in de buurt en de stad.
Gedeelde ruimtes genereren een dynamiek van ontmoeting binnen de autonome werking van deelinitiatieven en verenigingen. De oude centrale Koer leent zich als ideale middel tot de ruimtelijke herinrichting en waar de buren kunnen participeren in de beplanting. De buitenkamer kan de herorganisatie sturen en de functies verbinden. Nieuwe gevels en luifels geven de Koer een warm en menselijk gezicht, terwijl wapperende vlaggen op de beschermde straatgevels de transformatie tonen aan de buurt.
De nieuwe gaanderij wordt de flexibele technische en sociale ruggengraad, ze verbindt onderdelen, maar kan terzelfdertijd de initiatieven autonoom laten functioneren. De Gaanderij vormt samen met de Kantine en de Koer, het kloppend hart en draaischijf voor de nieuwe werkplaatsen, kantoren, markthal…
Het zal voor alle gebruikers, de buurt en de stad een kader vormen waarbinnen continue ontwikkeling, transformatie en samenwerking centraal staan. De plek zal bijgevolg geen twee keer hetzelfde zijn maar met haar uitgesproken ingrepen wel duidelijk leesbaar blijven. De architectuur schenkt bijkomende aandacht aan de toekomstgerichte veranderingen die het teweeg kan brengen voor de buurt. Dusdanig kan een werkelijk duurzaam hefboomeffect en een inclusief maatschappelijk stedelijk en sociaal weefsel worden gegenereerd.

This fire station was an example of efficient use. The productive spaces and the courtyard are familiar entities that recur in the industrial and historical patrimony of the Kortrijk. They form the foundations for the new Deelfabriek and meeting point for the neighborhood.
Optimizing the open (factory) plan in the fire station, a large area of usable space can be realized with a targeted number of interventions. Specific to the factory floor is the flexible layout of the production line. This enables changeable activities in the long term and the free interpretation by work crews in the short term. The transformation of the fire station by analogy to a factory creates a flexible, affordable and sharable project, usable by various actors in the neighborhood and the city.

Shared spaces generate a dynamic of encounter within the autonomous operation of sharing initiatives and associations. The old central Kur lends itself as an ideal means of spatial reorganization and where neighbors can participate in planting. The outdoor room can guide the reorganization and connect the functions. New facades and awnings give the Kur a warm and human face, while flying flags on the protected street facades show the transformation to the neighborhood.

The new gallery will be the flexible technical and social backbone, connecting parts but at the same time allowing the initiatives to function autonomously. Together with the Kantine and the Koer, the Gaanderij will form the beating heart and hub for the new workshops, offices, market hall, etc.
It will form a framework for all users, the neighborhood and the city within which continuous development, transformation and collaboration are central. Consequently, the place will never be the same twice but will remain clearly legible with its pronounced interventions. The architecture pays additional attention to the future-oriented changes it can bring about for the neighborhood. As such, a truly sustainable leverage effect and an inclusive urban and social fabric can be generated.
