Deze woning met loods is gelegen in de 19e-eeuwse gordel rond Gent. De vraag was om wonen en werken te verweven rondom en met een binnentuin. In de zomer wordt deze patio als buitenkamer een essentieel onderdeel van het huis. Het buitenschrijnwerk aan weerszijden van de patio is opgevat als een soort ‘faux jumeau’, waarbij beide ramen met elkaar communiceren en als meubelstuk zijn uitgewerkt waardoor de grens tussen binnen en buiten vervaagt.
In de woonruimtes op de begane grond is alles licht en om te toveren tot een fotostudio. Alle vaste onderdelen zoals meubels, gordijnen, spiegels, trappen en kasten zijn in functie van deze studio. Op de begane grond zijn wonen en werken volledig met elkaar verweven. De keuken en woonruimte zijn flexibel en er is altijd de mogelijkheid om deze op een andere plek in huis te plannen. Hoe hoger we in huis komen, hoe meer we de echt privékamers betreden. Helemaal bovenaan is de slaapkamer in een donkere kamer gepositioneerd als verwijzing naar de roots van de fotografie, maar ook om alle alledaagse beslommeringen achter je te laten en op te gaan in dit eerbetoon aan de schaduw.

This house with shed is situated in the 19th century belt around Ghent. The request was to intertwine living and working around and with an inner courtyard. In summer, this patio becomes an essential part of the house as an outdoor room. The exterior joinery on both sides of the patio is conceived as a kind of ‘faux jumeau’, where both windows communicate with each other and are elaborated as furniture so that the boundary between inside and outside is blurred.
In the living spaces on the ground floor, everything is bright and transformable into a photo studio. All fixed parts such as furniture, curtains, mirrors, staircases and closets are in function of this studio. Living and working are completely intertwined on the ground floor. The kitchen and living space are flexible and there is always the possibility of planning them in another place in the house. The more we move up in the house, the more we enter the really private rooms. At the very top, the bedroom is positioned in a dark room as a reference to the roots of photography but also to leave all the mundane and day-to-day concerns behind and merge into this tribute to the shadow.
